REDWATER came to an  end on Thursday night with a bizarre moment showing Kat Moon hacked to pieces by a boat's propeller only to come out of it relatively unscathed just minutes later.

The finale saw Kat thrown from a boat skippered by her psycho killer son Dermott, for him to then accidentally reverse into her and the ocean becoming awash with blood at her horrendous injuries.

However, just moments later as Dermott dragged Kat to the rocks, all her limbs appeared to be intact and a large wound on her head had totally disappeared.

The show ended with Dermott cradling his "mammy" and shouting for help on the rocks as she slumped lifeless in his arms.

But the killer twist has left EastEnders fans bereft that the character formerly known as Kat Slater could have died so shockingly and may never see Walford again.

"OMG Kat and Alfie can't be dead, need to know what happens next. There needs to be a second series of Redwater," wrote one fan.

"What the f***?!" said another. "Is Kat dead?!???"

But the bad news continued with Alfie also being feared dead after his surgery went a bit wrong.

Fans will have to wait to see whether the couple resurface in Walford or will be back for another series of Redwater.

The six-part series, which follows Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) travelling to a small village in Ireland to look for her long-lost son, initially drew in 4.9million viewers but since then millions have switched off.

Previously, the BBC show's creator Dominic Treadwell-Collins and actor Shane Richie had been positive about the future of the series, with Dominic even reportedly thinking ahead about the fourth season.

But when the asked whether a second series had been commissioned, the BBC revealed: "No decision has been made."

TV insiders have also told The Sun they believe that the programme is destined for failure.

A source said: “Everyone thought Redwater would be a huge hit given the massive, loyal fanbase Eastenders has. EastEnders draws in over six million viewers each episode so producers thought Redwater would follow suit and get at least three quarters of the audience.

“It got off to a brilliant start with five million so their hopes were up, but the ratings for episode two were bleak. The fact so many people turned off after episode one [was] very telling.

“It’s a big blow for Jessie and Shane too.”
