Who is Maggie Steed? What is her background?

Maggie Steed was born December 1, 1946, in Plymouth, Devon.

She is an English actress and comedian, but found it hard to get acting roles in the 60s as she was considered "not conventionally pretty enough".

She has worked on the stage, and has performed with the Royal National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company.

She has also starred in a number of well-known TV shows.

What famous shows has Maggie Steed been in?

Maggie's first major television role was playing Rita Moon in the series Shine on Harvey Moon.

She also played Margaret Crabbe in Pie in the Sky and Phyllis Woolf in Born and Bred.

Other big roles include parts in Fox, Minder, Sensitive Skin and Jam and Jerusalem.

Maggie has also been in rival soap Coronation Street in 1970 as Ellen Smith.

She most recently starred in Paddington 2 as Gertrude Biggleswade.

Who did Maggie Steed play in EastEnders?

Maggie played Joyce Murray in the hit BBC soap.

She joined on May 27, 2017, along with fellow veteran TV star Christopher Timothy, who plays her on-screen husband Ted.

Talking about playing Joyce, she said: “I think she’s a very good woman.

"She’s quite determined in her own way, she’s very soft hearted. She adores Ted.

"She can get worried and frightened about things, but I think when push comes to shove she can be pretty strong as well.”

The Sun revealed on March 22, however, that Joyce would be departing from Albert Square.

On Good Friday, 2018, viewers were left heartbroken as Joyce passed away.

Since, husband Ted has been struggling to come to terms with her death.
