QUEENS OF HOLLYWOOD

Andie MacDowell, Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon lead the fashion pack at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award Gala

Actresses of all ages wow snappers in variety of quirky and elegant outfits in tribute to 71-year-old Annie Hall star

ANDIE MacDowell stuns in a plunging black gown as she leads a pack of A-List actresses including Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams and Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet.

Despite her 59 years the gorgeous Groundhog Day actress looked breath-taking and showed her younger comrades how to nail Hollywood glamour.

Andie was attending the American Film Institute's 45th Life Award Gala Tribute to celebrate the work of Diane Keaton, best known for co-starring in Woody Allen's Annie Hall, for which she won Best Actress.

The ceremony last night was attended by the cream of Los Angeles performers, including recent Oscar winner Emma Stone, who was showcasing her new blonde hair.

Emma, 28, was wearing a very unusual dress, featuring four different sections with various patterns printed on each.

No doubt her choice of outfit was inspired by Ms Keaton's own off-beat sense of style, which she's been known for since the 1970s.

Midway through the ceremony Emma stood up in the crowd and made a comical speech about how much Diane has inspired her own career.

Elsewhere, 41-year-old Big Little Lies star Reese Witherspoon was channelling Wednesday Addams with her black and white mini dress.

On stage she explained that Diane had taught her three lessons on acting: to have a natural sense of fashion, to use physicality to create a character, and to “unapologetically be yourself.”

The Notebook star Rachel McAdams, 38, was also in attendance and went for a more feminine look, sporting a plunging blue gown with a floral print and black bow detail.

She and Friends star Lisa Kudrow, aka Phoebe Buffay, both made speeches on stage about Diane, who has worked on 50 movies and is now 71 years old.

Lisa, 53, who starred with Diane and Meg Ryan in 2000 comedy Hanging Up at the height of her fame, talked about how Diane has mentored so many young stars.

Wearing a pale pink dress, Meg Ryan, 55, also honoured her friend, as did Steve Martin, 71, who played a song at the start of the ceremony.

He recalled the piece of advice he treasured most from Diane: “Being nice doesn’t cost you anything whereas giving to charity does.”

Diane herself had taken her own quirky style to the extreme as she arrived on the red carpet, in a polo neck black dress, white coat, gloves and large bowler hat.

Meryl Streep described her as "the most covered woman in history" last night and it's not hard to see why that description fits.
