LORRAINE Kelly wept this morning as she reported on the funeral of the 14-year-old Manchester bombing victim Eilidh MacLeod.
The teenager from Barra in the Outer Hebrides was laid to rest yesterday after being caught in the explosion that killed 22 as it ripped through Manchester Arena following an Ariana Grande gig last month.
As the presenter spoke over footage of the funeral she couldn’t hold back her tears.
Lorraine said: “Yesterday family and friends of Eilidh MacLeod laid her to rest on Barra, the 14-year-old was taken from her home to Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay for the church service and her favourite Ariana Grande song was played.”
Becoming increasingly emotional and beginning to cry, Lorraine added: “Break your heart. Break your heart it really would.”
As she looked down towards her desk to hide her tears, the Scottish TV favourite apologised as she linked to the next segment.
Lorraine echoed the emotions of viewers at home who were moved by the host’s reaction.
One said: “I was very moved with the interview on @ITVLorraine this morning. So emotional, I was in tears. Love #Lorraine”
Another added: “Lorraine Kelly made me all teary bless her #Lorraine 😢”
And a third person tweeted: “Really feeling all this horrific terrorism. We are human beings and are supposed to feel hurt. #Lorraine is only human too 😢”
Speaking before the funeral yesterday Eilidh’s parents, Roddy and Marion, said: “Two weeks ago today we lost our darling daughter and sister, Eilidh MacLeod, in one of the cruellest ways possible.
“Most of Eilidh’s happiest times were spent in the Western Isles, particularly Barra and Vatersay, with her friends and family so we are pleased to have her back home among those she loved so much.
“Today, as we take Eilidh on her final journey, our one hope is that her funeral is a real celebration of her life and the wonderful person she was.
“Eilidh’s infectious personality touched everyone she met and it has been a privilege and an honour to have her as our daughter.
“We will always remember her as a truly beautiful girl inside and out, eternally young, loved by all and forever in our hearts.”
