Holly and her co-host Phillip Schofield both looked horrified as Gerard spoke about his experience during the terror attack.

He told the pair how he battled the attackers in a Borough Market pub just moments after they crashed a van on London Bridge and began attacking revellers with knives.

Gerard said the knifemen "didn't even look human".

He said: "There was hate in their eyes. I was throwing chairs, glasses... I was scared. I didn't want anyone to die."

Holly couldn't hide her horror as he described seeing the attackers wearing what appeared to be suicide belts.

But Gerard soon realised the devices were fake as he saw they were strapped on with duct tape.

He went on to reveal he has been having "nightmares and flashbacks" since the attack and can't shut out the voice of a woman who was screaming for help.

Gerard admits he has no idea if the woman he saw being stabbed is still alive, but wants to be given the chance to meet her if she has pulled through.

He earlier : "She was going 'help me, help me' and screaming.

"It was horrible. I felt helpless. I'm sad for that poor girl, what they did to her, and I wish I could have done more to help her."

He described the terror attack as the "most evil" thing he had ever seen.

Gerard had just left The Ship pub in Borough and was walking home when he saw a victim covered in blood pleading for help.

He then saw the jihadis stabbing a woman who was lying on the floor.

Seven people died and almost 50 more were left injured after the attack in the busy central London area on Saturday night.

The three attackers were shot dead by police.
