Who is Ted Murray actor Christopher Timothy? EastEnders star who featured in All Creatures Great and Small

WALFORD might not always be the most welcoming neighbourhood in soap land, but newcomer Christopher Timothy looks at home on the set of EastEnders.

The British actor made his debut on the flagship BBC One soap in May 2017 - but he's been familiar to TV viewers for decades, as he has a career that rolls all the way back to the ‘60s.

Who is Christopher Timothy and where is he from?

Christopher Timothy is a British actor born on 14 October 1940 in Bala, Gwynedd, in Wales.

His parents moved to London when he was five years old and he had his first taste of acting while attending the Priory Grammar School in Shrewsbury.

His first proper break was in the 1960s as a member of Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre company appearing in productions of The Master Builder and Othello.

Who does Christopher Timothy play in EastEnders?

In April 2017 it was announced Christopher would be joining the cast of EastEnders in the role of Ted Murray.

He made his debut in May 2017 – arriving in the square in the company of his then on-screen wife Joyce (played by Maggie Steed).

The couple are old friends of Dot Cotton (June Brown) with their arrival stirring curiosity among soap fans as viewers saw them in possession of a gun.

They have a son called Alan Murray, who has never been seen on screen and a daughter Judith.

Judith arrived in the square after Ted's wife (and her mother), Joyce died suddenly.

What other TV shows has Christopher Timothy starred in?

Christopher has enjoyed a six decades-long career which has seen him crop up in TV shows including Casualty, Holby City and Murder Most English.

Arguable his most treasured role, however, was as James Herriot in the 1978-1990 classic TV series All Creatures Great and Small.

He also played Dr Brendan ‘Mac’ McGuire in BBC daytime soap Doctors between 2000 and 2006.

Has Christopher Timothy been in any films?

Christopher Timothy’s film career was at its most busy during the late 1960s and early ‘70s.

He appeared in the 1967 film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, and then Alfred The Great in 1969.

Other roles include parts in the 1971 sci-fi drama The Mind of Mr Soames  (alongside Terence Stamp) and the Frankie Howard comedy Up The Chastity Belt in 1971.

Is Christopher Timothy married?

Christopher has been married twice.

He was first married to Susan Boys with whom he had four sons and two daughters.

He divorced Susan and then married Annie Veronica Swatton in 1982 – and they have one daughter together.
