Lily Collins admits she was ‘nervous’ losing weight to play a character with anorexia after personally battling an eating disorder
Daughter of singer Phil Collins talked candidly about her new screen role on today's Lorraine
ACTRESS Lily Collins admitted she was "nervous" to lose weight and play an anorexia sufferer in her latest movie after previously battling an eating disorder.
In a candid chat on today's Lorraine show, Lily admitted her new role as Ellen in Netflix flick To The Bone meant she was closely supervised during filming.
She said the film - which premiered at this year's glitzy Cannes Film Festival - was "informative and very impactful".
Lily was candid about her previous battle with eating disorders when quizzed by host Lorraine Kelly.
Lorraine said: "You're a tiny little thing but you would have presumably had to lose more weight for that role because it's important.
"With your past experience with eating disorders were you worried about that?
Lily, 28, replied: "I was nervous right away with the subject matter, but I knew it was for a greater purpose.
"I'm older now and I have a different perspective on it
"I was excited to be able to tell this story and open up the conversation for men and women around the world."
She added: "I was kept under close supervision by the producers, the directors, the writer, my mother and also a nutritionist.
"We worked very closely together, very healthfully."
Lily's latest movie is scheduled for release on the subscription service in July.
Clearly proud at shining the spotlight on such a personal issue, Lily told Lorraine: "It's the first feature film that has ever been done about an eating disorder and I feel so proud to be a part of it.
"I have been very vocal in the past about my own eating disorders and it's become quite taboo to talk about, even though the fact it's becoming more and more prevalent in today's youth with men and women."
Earlier this month, Lily revealed she has "forgiven" her Genesis singer dad for not being there for her when she was growing up.
Lily, Phil‘s middle child, claimed that “many of my deepest insecurities stem from these issues with my dad”, including her teenage anorexia.
In a letter published in her book Unfiltered and published by the – she hinted that she hasn’t always had the best relationship with the 66-year-old, who was married to her American mum Jill Tavelman from 1984 until 1996.
She wrote: “I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected.
“I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward."
