Who is Ellis Barrie?

Ellis Barrie, 27, is a self-taught chef who is now based in Anglesey, Wales.

His passion for cooking began when he participated in a junior cookery class at the age of 12 and by 19 he was running his own restaurant.

Now, Ellis, who originally hails from Liverpool, has transformed a potting shed on his parents’ campsite from a café that served all day breakfasts into an award winning restaurant, called The Marram Grass.

With a focus on imaginative combinations and local produce it has been described as a place of “culinary pilgrimage”.

Ellis’ menu aims to take the diner on a journey which reminds people of summertime nostalgia and includes a tribute to Fred Perry, a local tennis icon.

When is Great British Menu on?

The series comes to an end this week and is shown each night at 8pm on BBC Two.

Season 12 of the Great British Menu started on May 2 and runs for 45 episodes – the theme this year is 140 Years of Wimbledon.

What happens on Great British Menu?

Professional chefs compete to create a dish fit for a banquet to celebrate a different occasion – this year it’s Wimbledon’s 140th birthday.

24 professional chefs show off their culinary skills in the hopes of being chosen to cook one course for the four course banquet.

One chef each week goes through to the final, where the judges taste the dishes again and award them marks out of ten.

The three dishes that have scored the highest for each course are then put to the public vote.
