MILEY Cyrus has admitted she has major regrets about swinging naked on a wrecking ball in the video for her song of the same name, adding that she'd like to kill the catchy track.

The US pop star , 24, famously stripped nude for the infamously steamy video during her headline-grabbing break on to the music scene as a solo act in 2013.

Now Miley, who's engaged to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth, has admitted the video will follow her "forever" no matter what she does, and that she wishes it would die.

She said: "That’s something you can’t take away … swinging around naked on a wrecking ball lives forever. Once you do that in the mess that I did, it’s forever."

Reflecting on the song has haunted her, she added: "I’m never living that down. I will always be the naked girl on a wrecking ball.

"No matter how much I just frolic with [my dog] Emu, I’m always the naked girl on the wrecking ball … I should have thought how long that was going to have to follow me around."

It's a very different take on the "emotional" Wrecking Ball video to the one Miley gave just after it came out four years ago.

She gushed in 2013: "I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me you can tell that I actually look more broken than even the song sounds...

"If people can take their minds out of the obvious and go into their imagination a little bit and see kind of what the video really means, and the way it's so vulnerable, and actually if you look in my eyes I look more sad than my voice sounds on the record."

A discussion about the song came up during a about which songs of hers she would "marry, eff or kill" — which saw her pick Wrecking Ball to kill off.

Hollywood star Anne Hathaway even mocked the Wrecking Ball video on Lip Sync Battle in 2015, but Miley has managed to turn the other cheek with a major image overhaul.

Currently she is promoting a upcoming country-inspired album, out later this year, and starting to wear cowboy hats in public.

Miley, who scandalised fans by twerking on stage with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs,  claims the change in her music is inspired by the state of the planet, explaining: "I’m giving the world a hug and saying, 'Hey, look. We’re good – I love you.'

"And I hope you can say you love me back."

It's a world away from her gyrating, twerking 2013 persona that saw her do outrageous things like spit water all over her fans at gigs.

But despite going back to her familiar country roots, Miley has denied she'd be interested in returning to her Disney alter-ego Hannah Montana.

She added: “[I] probably [wouldn’t do a ‘Hannah Montana’ reboot].

"Probably not because… it’s a lot of time to be spent with my dad [Billy Ray Cyrus].

"You know, my dad was my dad on the show. I have enough dad time," she concluded.
