When is Inspector George Gently next on?

The final film of the BBC series, Gently and the New Age will be shown TONIGHT, October 30 at 9pm on BBC One.

It will be the last time we see Martin Shaw and his loyal sidekick, Inspector Bacchus.

Originally the film was set to be shown in May 2017, but it was pulled by the BBC over concerns about the political content of the film with the 2017 General Election just days away.

The finale will see Gently giving evidence at London's Old Bailey against corrupt police officers before he is pulled in to one last case by the new head of Special Investigations Squad.

What is Inspector George Gently about?

Inspector George Gently is a crime drama set in the 1960s.

The story follows an old-school detective trying to come to stay on the straight and narrow as the police around them become more corrupt.

The first episode of the new series, titled Gently Liberated, is teased as Gently and Bacchus becoming involved in an investigation that may be a miscarriage of justice.

Inspector George Gently has been running as a series since 2007.

The show has been nominated for two Irish Film and Television Awards throughout its run, and has a 7.9 rating on IMDb.

Is this the last series of Inspector George Gently.

Yes. The team behind the show have announced that this series will be the show's last.

Speaking about the upcoming finale, Martin Shaw said: "I'm excited at being able to bring the series to a proper finale, a farewell that befits such a popular series."

Series creator and executive producer Peter Flannery added: "It's been a privilege along the way to work with talented and committed teams and I hope that many of them will look back on George Gently – as I will – with pride and pleasure."

Lee Ingleby has become known for playing both heroes and villains in his roles.

Apart from Bacchus, he is probably most recognisable as the Knight Bus attendant in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

He also featured as Nick Huntley in this year's nail-biting series of Line of Duty and is now set to voice Captain Campion in the Watership Down remake.

Lee was also the voice of children's favourite Bob the Builder for two years.

Simon Hubbard (PC Taylor)

Simon has turned his attention to behind the scenes when he's not working on Inspector George Gently.

He has several writing and directing credits on a series of shorts, and in the theatre, he has directed the critically acclaimed stage version of Glengarry Glenross - which had a sell-out run at Dublin's New Theatre.

As an actor, he made a one-off appearance in comedy drama Boy Meets Girl in 2015.
