Carol Vorderman admits her kids saved her life after plunging into deep depression during the menopause

CAROL Vorderman bravely admitted she "didn't see the point in life" during her bleakest moments in her battle with depression.

The maths ace endured six months of mental turmoil before being diagnosed with post-menopausal depression and revealed for the first time her responsibility to her two children was "the main reason" she didn't take her own life.

Former Countdown host Carol, 56, told today's Lorraine show: "I would wake up and I didn't see the point.

"I didn't see the point in life.

"The only reason I didn't do anything is because I have two children.

"I just wanted the feeling to stop."

Carol realised her dark days correlated with her periods before being diagnosed

She candidly admitted to show host Lorraine Kelly: "If it wasn't for them, I suspect we wouldn't be talking today."

Carol said she was eager to address the "taboo" nature of depression by speaking out about her own experience.

She revealed it was only when she looked at her calendar and realised her two low weeks correlated to when she was having her period.

She added: "It's a horrible, horrible thing to happen. The depression hit me.

"It floored me."

Last November, The Sun was first to reveal twice-divorced Carol's dark time.

She said using hormone gel has helped her make the most of the freedom she is now feeling as a 55-year-old.

She said: “I love my life, I genuinely love my life. I skip everywhere because I’m happy, I don’t care what other people think anymore.”
