SELENA Gomez has confirmed that Netflix's smash-hit drama 13 Reasons Why will return for a second series next year.
The series centres around a group of friends of high school student Hannah, who kills herself and leaves behind thirteen tapes - each containing a different reason as to why she decided to take her life.
When the show returns, it will continue where the last left off and see how Hannah's family and friends continue to adjust to her death.
Season two will be much like the first and will also have thirteen hour-long episodes.
13 Reasons Why became the source of much controversy due to its portrayal of suicide as well as graphic storylines including drink-driving and rape.
It caused Netflix to step in and add content warnings to the beginning of shows that some viewers may find distressing.
The subscription service later strengthened the warning to include links to details of various support organisations.
Singer Selena, 24, has acted as executive producer on the show and will continue on in the role after the show's success made it one of the most tweeted about shows in 2017 so far.
She announced that the show would be returning with a mini-teaser trailer for the show, which was branded with the number 2 at the end of the clip.
Underneath the video, posted to her Instagram, she wrote: "The story isn't over."
After the controversy surrounding the show, she also stepped in to defend it, and said to : "We stayed very true to the book...what Jay Asher created was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story and I think that’s what we wanted to do.
"We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] gonna come no matter what. It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing. I'm overwhelmed, I'm very proud of it."
