EastEnders fans fury as spoilers of eagerly anticipated spin-off Redwater risk leaking online four days before UK air date

EastEnders fans have erupted in outrage after it was revealed spin-off show Kat and Alfie: Redwater will air in Ireland ahead of the UK.

And not just ahead by a few hours – it will hit screens on Ireland’s RTE One FOUR DAYS before it airs on the BBC.

The hotly anticipated show will follow fan favourites Kat and Alfie Moon (played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie) as they trek to an Irish town called Redwater in search of her long-lost son.

The show is expected to include shocking twists and turns – and fans fear that spoilers will become impossible to avoid while waiting for BBC One to catch up.

An official air-date for the six-part Redwater series has been confirmed for Sunday 14 May – while the drama won’t hit British screens until Thursday 18 May.

Fans of Kat and Alfie have taken to Twitter to express fears they won’t be able to avoid hearing spoilers – like the identity of Kat’s long-lost child.

One fan demanded an explanation from show producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins, tweeting: “How come @rteone are showing #Redwater 4 days before @BBCOne? Will spoil it for UK fans. Luke's identity & other twists will leak.”

The same account then pined: “So unfair to millions of viewers in UK. Not saying we should get it first instead, just show it on the same day in UK & Ireland.”

Meanwhile a Shane Richie fan account offered some sage advice.

“Can only suggest unfollowing any account who give away huge spoilers ahead of UK showing,” they recommended.

Kat and Alfie have been absent from Albert Square for months while filming the tense spin-off.

And indeed it was revealed earlier this month that EastEnders will show a “special scene” referencing the duo’s adventures in the spin-off.

Producers have revealed the teaser snippet will premiere in an episode of the BBC soap which features just ahead of the new programme’s debut this month.

A source the show link-up would see EastEnders favourite Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) play a key role, and revealed: “Kat and Alfie are one of Albert Square’s most iconic couples.

“They’ve been a massive part of EastEnders so it was only right that their special spin-off got a mention on the soap.

“Stacey receives a postcard with a picture of Redwater on the front and is surprised to read that it’s from Kat and Alfie.”
