Good Morning Britain presenters transform into Star Wars characters to mark fan day May 4
The breakfast show hosts were celebrating the special day marked by enthusiasts of the sci fi series
GOOD Morning Britain presenters – including birthday girl Kate Garraway – were transformed into Star Wars characters to mark fan day May 4.
Traits of the Sci Fi favourites were matched to those of the breakfast show presenters before images of their heads were super-imposed onto their bodies.
Bubbly Kate Garraway, who was marking her milestone 50th birthday live on air, was compared to a Gungan yet Ben Shephard raised his eyebrows when he was switched to a cuddly Wookiee.
He squealed: “I’m not quite so hairy,” before entertainment reporter Richard Arnold quipped: “I’d disagree with that.”
Meanwhile Richard was likened to a friendly Ewok.
Star Wars fans flock to celebrate May 4 to celebrate the series created by George Lucas.
They chose the date because it marks a pun on the show’s catchphrase “May the Force Be With you.”
Earlier in the show, Kate squirmed in her seat as she was shown an epic montage of her best TV moments to celebrate her 50th birthday.
The bubbly breakfast show presenter looked stunning on her special day in a teal coloured dress which showed off her slender figure.
Opening today’s show, co-host Susanna Reid told viewers: “It’s a very special day because looking fabulous at 50…” before presenter Ben Shephard started talking about the football results.
She jumped back in to say: “Happy birthday Lady Garraway!”
The team then treated mum-of-two Kate to a trip down memory lane showing scenes throughout her TV career.
Kate held her head in her hands as she was shown the time when a gorilla approached her on the GMB sofa before she was seen squealing as she joined Ben in a bath tub.
Winding even further back in time, she was shown presenting the former GMTV with Andrew Castle before getting red-faced as she was shown dashing off live TV when her phone rang – to the amusement of Piers Morgan.
Earlier in the show, Ben and Susanna giggled as a photograph of teenage Kate with brunette hair was shown on-screen.
Cheeky Ben – who often enjoys playful on-air banter with Kate – quizzed about her milestone: “Are we still pretending this didn’t happen years ago?”
Kate explained: “People thought I was 50 a year ago.
“It’s given me a year to adjust and rejoice.”
Not letting things lie, Ben quipped: “Dragging and dragging like your fringe!”
Kate, who this year released her first book The Joy of Big Knickers to celebrate a love for life, replied: “How lovely to be here to celebrate with you.
“50 years of banging on about nonsense – thanks for putting up with me!”
She then added to viewers: “Thank you for putting up with me for so many years.”
Kate’s fans flooded Twitter with messages of congratulations – with many suggesting she looked 20 years younger.
One wrote: “Happy Birthday! You don’t look 50 at all. Have a great day.”
Another put: “Wow! Hope I look that great at 50. Happy Birthday Kate,” while a third put a funny image of Kate wearing a crown hat and posted: “ Happy Birthday Kate the Queen of breakfast TV and totally gorgeous lady X”
