Take Me Out viewers will be able to see tragic Charlie Watkins’ date with Glasgow student Jo-Tara this weekend
TRAGIC Take Me Out contestant Charlie Watkins' date with bubbly student Jo-Tara will air on both tomorrow's show and Sunday's spin-off The Gossip.
The 22-year-old took his own life following filming of the ITV2 dating show, but his family gave permission for the episode to be shown.
Sources told Sun Online: "It was a really happy date and it went really well."
ITV have also confirmed that they will hold a tribute to him at the end of Mark Wright-fronted spin-off The Gossip after airing his date with bubbly Jo Tara on the fictional Isle of Fernando.
In a trailer shown on last week, the criminology student is seen smiling as he joins Mark, his co-host Laura Jackson, and the other contestants as they cheers with champagne, and then dancing with the group.
Charlie, who jokingly referred to himself as “The Chaz Man” is then shown in the club covering his mouth with amusement and turning his back as one of the lads drops their trousers on the dancefloor.
In a statement, Charlie's family heartbreakingly revealed that he had never recovered from losing his mum when he was just nine-years-old.
It read: “We have lost a very special young man who sadly never recovered from the tragic loss of his mother when he was only nine years old.
“Tragically this is another example of the mental health issues suffered by young people today as highlighted by the Heads Together campaign supported by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.”
Charlie, who lived in Colchester, Essex, was an Activities Officer at the university’s Union. An investigation was launched on campus in October after five students killed themselves in a year.
His family set up a fundraising page for the mental health charity Mind. It has so far raised more than £10,600 for its Mid and North Essex branch.
