The This Morning presenter couldn't hide her revoltion when told it can have medical benefits
HOLLY Willoughby was left disgusted when she was forced to debate whether it is OK to pick your nose and eat it.
The host joined a number of viewers who were left very divided by the bizarre debate on This Morning.
Her co-presenter Phillip Schofield couldn’t help but giggle as they introduced the issue and spoke with parents about scientific evidence suggesting there is medical benefits of eating our bogies.
Guest Antony admitted: “I’m more of a pick it, lick it, roll it and flick it kind of guy.”
Holly pretended she was retching as she admitted: "I'm going to throw up".
Many viewers were feeling the same way as one wrote: "Picking your nose and eating it is good for you according to scientists. Eww! I'm still not going to though!! lol"
Another added: "eeewww wot a subject gross don't think i want see nose picking yuk."
One viewer pointed out: "We swallow about 2 pints of mucus a day anyway and don't even realise it, so eating snot ain't going to make a difference."
Another tweeted: "I'm not even a 'secret' nose picker, I can't help myself"
A new study by the American Society for Microbiology, is encouraging more people to pick their nose and eat it because it has a positive effect on teeth and protected them from cavity-causing bacteria.
The study claims "eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strenghtening the body's immune system."
Mucus-containing bogies is also claimed to help protect against HIV, stomach ulcers and respirator infections.
