Coronation Street spoilers: Bethany Platt manipulated into getting engaged to Nathan Curtis as he introduces her to another pervert friend
TRAGIC Bethany Platt is set to get engaged with vile groomer Nathan Curtis as she struggles to process her rape by his friend Neil.
Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, is confused when Nathan kisses her and thanks her for “looking after” Neil, after he encouraged her to go on a date with him and have sex with him – neither of which she had wanted.
She thinks about reaching out to her mum and to Mary Taylor as she doesn’t know how to get out of the situation.
But Nathan manages to manipulate her into feeling like she has done something wrong, by being deliberately cold and hostile in private, but still charming in public.
Already feeling guilty as Nathan is determined to make her suffer, a revelation from his accomplice Mel Maguire makes things worse.
Mel pulls out an engagement ring, revealing to Bethany that Nathan was planning to propose to her – and she’s immediately convinced she was completely in the wrong and worried she has brought the relationship to an end.
As Bethany grovels to Nathan and says sorry she had any doubts about sleeping with Neil, she’s truly trapped.
She promises she’ll do anything for Nathan – which audiences will assume includes having sex with more of his mates – and as her reward he asks her to marry him.
And eagle-eyed Corrie fans will suspect she says yes, as the schoolgirl has already been spotted wearing an engagement ring as more scenes are filmed.
It marks an even darker twist to the horrifying storyline, which has seen Bethany become increasingly isolated, moving in with the sick groomer and with no family or friends left to turn to.
Later, Nathan will test whether Bethany will really do anything for him, as she’s introduced to his and Neil’s friend Ian.
Neil suggests they should throw a party and invite Ian, which makes Bethany uneasy. But it seems likely she will agree to the party as she is desperate to do anything to please vile groomer Nathan.
