Brit Awards 2025 updates: Charli XCX bags FIVE gongs as Jack Whitehall sparks outrage with jokes at chaotic ceremony

CHARLI XCX was the big winner at this year's Brit Awards after scooping five gongs.

The Brit singer walked away with awards for Album Of The Year, Artist Of The Year, Dance Act, Songwriter Of The Year and Song Of The Year (joint with Billie Ellish).

Jade Thirlwall also won her first ever Brit Award as a solo artist, picking up Best Pop Act.

But awards aside, there was controversy surrounding the show at London's O2 Arena.

BRITs host Jack Whitehall took the helm after a four-year hiatus but he shocked music fans with some 'disgusting' jokes.

Jack poked fun at KSI, Stephen Hawking and even made a so-called quip about rapper P Diddy - and fans were unimpressed.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter had flown to the UK to open the show with a very British-inspired performance.

And towards the end, BRITs bosses paid a special and emotional tribute to One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died aged 31 last year.

  • Who has won the most Brit awards?

Robbie Williams is the most awarded artist at the Brits ever and has received a whopping 13 awards from the Brits as a solo artist.

Just behind him, Adele is the most awarded female artist with 12 awards over the course of her career.

Raye swept the Brit awards last year, taking home best artist, best album and best song of the year awards.

She also became the first female recipient to win Songwriter of the Year and broke the record for the most nominations and wins for a single artist in a year.

  • Jack Whitehall is back to Brits

Jack Whitehall is returning to host the Brits because he had unfinished business after last fronting the awards as we emerged from lockdown in 2021.

The comedian is taking the reins for a fifth time after first doing so in 2018.

Jack felt as though his run ended with a “whimper” because it was a socially distanced evening with no raucous behaviour.

He is hoping to bring the awards to its best this time around.

  • Directioners’ dreams crushed

One Direction fans had their hopes up when rumours swirled around that the band will reunite after 10 years to honour their late member Liam Payne.

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were formally approached by the Brits about appearing at the event.

However, all four members decided against the idea and it is looking increasingly unlikely they will attend London’s O2 Arena.

It is felt that a reunion by the boys may distract from remembering Liam himself.

  • Tribute to Liam

Brit awards will honour Liam Payne with a special tribute at this year’s ceremony.

Brit bosses have chosen to honour Liam’s life and career with an emotional video montage which will be played out on big screens inside London’s O2 Arena.

The finer details are still being ironed out but we understand that Jack Whitehall, who is hosting the ceremony, will lead the tribute.

A music industry source said: “Liam loved the Brit Awards and attended and performed many times over the years, both with 1D and as a solo artist, and will forever be part of the show’s history.

“This moment will be all about him, and will allow the stars in the room and fans watching at home to take a few minutes to remember how incredible he was.”

  • Who will perform at Brit awards?

Espresso singer Sabrina Carpenter will both accept an award and give an unavoidably memorable performance.

This year, she took home the coveted Global Success award, which was previously given to Adele, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, and Sam Smith.

Other performances include best artist nominee Sam Fender, Lola Young, JADE from Little Mix, Myles Smith, Teddy Swims and The Last Dinner Party.

  • How can I watch the Brit awards?

The awards ceremony will be broadcast live from the The O2 Arena on Saturday, March 1 between 8pm and 10pm on ITV1 or available live on ITVX.

  • Who has the most nominations this year?

CHARLI XCX is leading the nods at this year’s Brit Awards with five nominations in one go.

They include Artist of the Year, Dance Act, Pop Act and Song of the Year for her Billie Eilish collaboration Guess and Album of the Year for Brat.

Close behind Charli with four nominations each are her friend Dua, indie band The Last Dinner Party, and Mercury Prize-winning jazz quintet Ezra Collective.
