Who raped Trish Winterman? As Broadchurch draws to a close we run the rule over the big clues and likely suspects
After seven weeks of DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller's investigations, viewers will finally discover who raped Trish Winterman in Monday night's finale
THE beast of Broadchurch will be caught on Monday night when viewers finally discover who raped Trish Winterman.
Over the past seven weeks, 7.5million viewers have been watching DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller (David Tennant and Olivia Colman) delve deep into the murky lives of local suspects.
Last week’s penultimate instalment ended on a cliff-hanger, with Clive Lucas’s wife Lindsay discovering Trish’s keys locked in a drawer in the taxi driver’s garage.
But Broadchurch fans will be expecting the usual twists and turns before the culprit is unmasked.
Mark Bazeley, who plays Jim Atwood, has revealed there may even be more than one man in the frame, saying: “The person, or persons, who have done the deed are forewarned.”
So before all is revealed on ITV at 9pm, we have mocked up the likely suspects on Cluedo cards and rounded up all the biggest clues.
Do you think you know whodunnit?

Ian Winterman
TRISH’S ex-husband (Charlie Higson) has admitted spying on her through her laptop.
We also saw him acting suspiciously over his dirty laundry following the rape at the party and his claims he “blacked out” after drinking too much at the celebrations seem convenient.
Attempting to cover for Leo over the Spyware also suggests they are involved in something more sinister.
But Ian was drinking tequila at the party and Trish (Julie Hesmondhalgh) has said she could smell vodka on her attacker’s breath.
Ed Burnett
SHOPKEEPER Ed (Lenny Henry) has an obsession with Trish and his assault on Jim shows he is capable of violence.
Last episode saw Ed call daughter DC Harford about the bloodstained blue twine he had discovered at the shop, but why did he not just call the police?
Armchair detectives will have noticed “teetotal” Ed was seen consoling himself with a drink after being released by police.
So was he drinking at Cath’s party after all?
But if his obsession with Trish was his motive, what about the other attacks?
Leo Humphries
COCKY Leo (Chris Mason) first came to our attention when Hardy and Miller wanted to find out whether the twine used to bind Trish was made in his shop.
However, he lied about his whereabouts on the night of the party and now viewers know he installed the spyware on Trish’s computer.
He has also been seen playing football wearing identical socks to the one used to gag Trish.
And intriguingly, his girlfriend said giving him a false alibi was the THIRD favour she had done him – and three is the number of sex attacks being investigating.
Jim Atwood
AFTER his wife Cath (Sarah Parish) told police about the condoms in Jim’s car – which matched the brand found at the rape scene – Hardy and Miller discovered he had no alibi for two earlier attacks.
He also had a connection to one of the other rape victims through his breakdown service.
Although the waitress at the party backed his claims about going to have sex with him, she added that she had changed her mind and left him frustrated, angry and alone in the woods – putting him firmly back in the frame once more.
Aaron Mayford
AS a convicted sex offender Aaron (Jim Howick) has form.
While he claimed to have been out fishing on the night of Trish’s rape, there was no sign of the fish he said he caught and CCTV records proved he lied about the route he took to the beach. As a fisherman he also had plenty of blue twine.
Having no connection to Trish fits the idea there is a serial sex attacker on the loose who also targeted Nira and Laura.
However, he may have been in prison during one of the other attacks, so does that implicate an accomplice?
Clive Lucas
SLEAZY taxi driver Clive (Sebastian Armesto) has been shown to be a cheating wrong ’un who treats his wife like dirt.
Now he is a prime suspect after wife Lindsay (Becky Brunning) found Trish’s keys in a locked drawer in his garage, just before he arrived home looking full of murderous rage.
Clive has no real alibi for the night of the party, having lied about his taxi radio not working.
He also seems to provide porn to schoolboys. Could the light Trish saw during the attack have been from a camera flash as he took a new sick picture?
