‘All-new’ Great British Bake Off sticks with winning recipe by keeping original tent, location and theme tune
CHANNEL 4 are sticking to The Great British Bake Off’s tried and tested recipe for the new series - by using the same venue, tent and theme tune.
The amateur baking show, which was watched by 14.8 million viewers as Candice Brown won the final series on the BBC last year, will begin shooting this month.
But despite a new line-up of judge Prue Leith, and hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding — as well as returning judge Paul Hollywood — loyal viewers will not face drastic change.
The final 12 bakers will head to Welford Park, near Newbury, Berkshire, where the show has been filmed since 2014.
And they will hear the familiar sound of the Bake Off’s now infamous theme tune as they enter the big white tent for the first time.
A source said: “While Channel 4 are keen to put their own stamp on the show, they are not trying to reinvent the wheel.
“They want to attract new legions of Bake Off fans, but also don’t want to dishearten those loyal viewers who have been watching it for years and are planning to keep doing so despite the change in channel.
“Viewers will get the familiar tent set-up, in the beautiful grounds of Welford Park, and the same theme tune they’ve been hearing since it was first launched in 2010.”
Welford Park, famous for its snowdrop flowers, is now closed to the public until July to allow Channel 4 and Love Productions, who own the popular format to the show, to film the series.
The show will also be produced by former couple Richard McKerrow and Anna Beattie, who own Love, and Sarah Thomson-Woolley who was the executive producer on the final BBC series.
