SIMON Reeve is a travel presenter and author who has helped viewers discover the world in a host of documentaries.

Last year he was back on our screens exploring the persecution of the Rohingya people in Myanmar for BBC Two as well as the Big Life Fix.

Who is Simon Reeve?

Simon Reeve is an author and presenter who makes travel documentaries and has written books on international terrorism, modern history and his travel adventures.

He is the older brother of photographer James Reeve and grew up in West London.

Simon began making travel documentaries for BBC after the September 11 attacks in 2001.

He has since received a One World Broadcasting Trust Award and was given the Ness Award from the Royal Geographical Society in 2012.

Simon is married to camerawoman and campaigner Anya and they have a son together.

Simon is best known for his travel documentaries and has presented shows such as BBC series Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and Equator.

In 2018, Simon returned to BBC Two with his new show Mediterranean which saw him uncover the wild extremes that lie behind the tourist veneer.

And from 2017-2018 he joined experts such as designers, engineers and computer programmers in The Big Life Fix.

These experts used their skills to help improve the lives for people with specific needs.

In 2018 his show Burma with Simon Reeve saw him investigate the persecution of the Rohingya people in Myanmar.

He first came to screens in 2003 in the four-part BBC Two and BBC World Holidays in the Danger Zone series, Meet the Stans, which was focused on Central Asia.

In 2005 he presented an award-winning five-part series titled Places That Don't Exist which focused on breakaway states and unrecognised nations.

Simon travelled along the Equator in 2006 and then tracked the Tropic of Capricorn in 2008.

He has visited over 110 countries including Greece, Ireland, the Caribbean, Scared Rivers and Australia for his documentaries.

What books has Simon written?

Simon is a New York Times bestselling author and his books have been translated into over 20 languages.

His first book, The New Jackals, was the first book on Osama bin Laden and was published in the late 90s.

His next book, One Day in September, covered the Munich Olympics massacre and subsequent incidents like the hijacking of Lufthansa Flight 615.

He also wrote Tropic of Capricorn to accompany his 2013 television show.

His latest book, published in 2018, is Step by Step: The Life in My Journeys.
