Doctor Who bosses planned Christmas Special with The Doctor FIGHTING Harry Potter, starring JK Rowling
DOCTOR Who bosses have a secret storyline teaming the Time Lord with boy wizard Harry Potter, it has emerged.
It was vetoed back in 2008 but is being saved for future use.
Last night a source said: “Who knows if it will ever see the light of day? But the idea alone is amazing in itself.
“Combining two massive franchises like Harry Potter and Doctor Who would be incredible.”
Former show writer Russell T Davies came up with the idea for a Christmas special in 2008 when he realised it would be hard to live up to having Kylie Minogue as a guest star the previous year.
The plot, outlined in emails revealed by the writer, would see Potter author JK Rowling contract a space bug that turned her creations into reality. The Doctor, more used to taking on arch enemies the Daleks, would then battle her magical baddies to consign her world to fiction again.
Davies said that he first asked JK to write an episode, but she declined.
He added: “Reflecting we can’t possibly get someone to star in next year’s Christmas special who’s as famous as Kylie, I thought, don’t ask JK to write a Dr Who, ask her to be in a Dr Who!”
But Broadchurch actor David Tennant, who was playing The Doctor, was not keen. Davies wrote: “We’ve got to keep him happy.”
Current writer Steven Moffat, leaving after this series, confirmed: “It exists on a hard drive somewhere — but you’ll have to ask Russell because that was in his time.”
Peter Capaldi is also quitting as The Doctor, along with Pearl Mackie, who plays his companion Bill.
