Gordon Ramsay turned down Great British Bake Off judge gig as he ‘didn’t want to be Mary Berry’s sloppy seconds’
GORDON Ramsay has revealed that he was offered Mary Berry’s job on Great British Bake Off but turned it down as he didn’t want to be her “sloppy seconds.”
Mary, 82, quit the show along with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins when it was sold to Channel 4 last year, and in an interview with The Telegraph Gordon let slip that he had been asked to replace the iconic chef.
When asked if his recent migration to daytime TV with his latest show Culinary Genius meant he was softening, Gordon, 50, said: “F*** no because if I am I’ll go back to Channel 4.
“They did ask me for Bake Off anyway.”
“I’m not very good at sloppy seconds.
“I don’t want to be the male version of Mary Berry.
“I’m 30 years younger and more wrinkly than her anyway.”

And it’s not just being a wrinkly Mary Berry that he’s against – the Michelin Star chef also feels that the BBC wasn’t respecting the franchise when the sold it.
He explained: “I think, as with Top Gear, we have an asset that is a crown jewel within a network: 14.5million viewers, there will never be another cookery show with that number ever again.
“For me Bake Off is like the Queen, it’s something to be respected, listened to and cared for - not sold off.”
