THE actress Diane Delano, who starred in the hit 1990s comedy drama Northern Exposure, has died at the age of 67.

She died in Los Angeles on Friday following a brief illness, her representative confirmed.

Delano, from Los Angeles, played the cop Barbara Semanski in the comedy-drama Northern Exposure, which aired between 1991 and 1995.

The actress starred in 12 episodes over five years.

The actor Rob Morrow, who played Joel Fleischman, and actress Cynthia Geary starred in the series, and it won seven Emmy Awards.

She played a prison matron in a 2006 episode of the sitcom Two and a Half Men.

The actress made appearances in other 1990s shows, including Renegade, the sitcom Step by Step, and Cop Rock.

Delano appeared in one episode of Desperate Housewives in 2006 and played the character Dee Dee Chesney in an episode of NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which aired in 2007.

Delano also appeared in children's TV series, such as the Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place and the animation Ben 10: Alien Force.

She didn't just appear in hit TV series but was also a star on the big screen.

Delano was best known for her roles in the 2004 movie The Ladykillers and the 2006 horror film The Wicker Man, which also featured Nicolas Cage.
