ITV’s News at Ten will return to its 10pm time slot as big turn-off continues for The Nightly Show flop

ITV’S News at Ten will return  to its original slot — after its replacement The Nightly Show flopped.

The bulletin, famed for its bongs, was pushed back to 10.30pm when  the chat series began five weeks ago.

But it will be on at  10pm again once The Nightly Show, now hosted by  Gordon Ramsay, ends its eight-week run on April 21, as was always planned.

Bosses will decide whether to bring back the chat show in 2018.

Director of television  Kevin Lygo said: “If we do, it’s likely we’ll show it at 10.30pm.”

Chiefs hoped that despite angering fans of   News at Ten,  hosted by Tom Bradby, 50, putting the series on at 10 would be  a ratings smash.

The bulletin has  previously been  moved for  I’m A  Celeb and Champions League football.

But viewers shunned The Nightly Show in droves, despite its formula of a different star host each week.

More than 300,000 turned off as sweary Gordon, 50, made his debut on Monday to an audience of just 1.2million. By Thursday, figures were below a million.

Previous hosts were David Walliams, John Bishop, Davina McCall and Dermot O’Leary.  Gordon will be followed by Jason Manford, Bradley Walsh and a final name yet to be announced.

A show source last night refused to confirm the plug was being pulled. They said:  “No decision has been made on its future.

“Pros and cons will be weighed up. The likelihood of a second series  depends on that.  Moving the time is one option being looked at, depending on whether or not it returns.”
