He said: "Ayda [Field] was on and she was talking about her husband Robbie [Williams] suffering from social anxiety.

"My ears pricked up."

Ayda had explained how the Rock DJ singer would pull out of red carpet appearances or parties at the last minute, and Peter admitted he would do the same.

He said: "I went, 'that’s what the label is, that’s what I’ve had all those years'.

"I would literally last minute ring up my manager and say 'I can’t go'. I’d say anything to get out of it."

The 44-year-old revealed he had managed to get his social anxiety under control with the help of medication and therapy.

He said: "Medication is a bit like sweeping it under the carpet, but I needed the medication to get me to the point where I could talk about what was causing my anxiety in therapy.

"Knowledge is key, once I understood what was going on... it changed over time, realising what the triggers are.

"I also thought, how many times have I been through a panic attack and nothing has happened afterwards?

"Understanding it’s not going to hurt you makes you stronger, it puts you in a better position."

The star added he was now medication-free and could deal with social situations a lot better.
