Mosh pits return to Britain for first time since Covid rocked the nation as Download Festival welcomes thousands of music fans

Last year's festival celebrated 21 years of the event and saw the bill topped by Queens of the Stone Age, Fall Out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold.

In 2023 Sheffield rockers Bring Me The Horizon, thrash veterans Metallica and masked juggernauts Slipknot led the lineup.

Also on the bill were big names like Pantera, The Offspring and Royal Blood.

Download is the heir to the famous Monsters of Rock event which took place at the same venue from 1980 to 1996.

It achieved huge success in the 80s when hard rock and metal dominated the airwaves, but as trends changed and the genre took a backseat to the likes of Britpop, club music and R&B, organisers struggled to put together strong lineups and the event eventually came to an end.

Its final outing was co-headlined by Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss.
