Birthday boy Alan Sugar donates more than £25,000 to Comic Relief to force Arsenal fan Piers Morgan to wear a Tottenham shirt AND stay silent for 24 hours
The Apprentice star forked out the hefty sum on his 70th birthday
ALAN Sugar splashed the cash on his 70th birthday forking out nearly £30,000 to see hardcore Arsenal fan Piers Morgan stay silent for 24 hours - while reluctantly wearing the football shirt of rival side Tottenham.
The Apprentice head honcho is a long-time nemesis of the Good Morning Britain presenter and jumped at the chance to make him suffer for a good cause.
After pulling on the white and navy blue top Londoner Piers said he felt like he was going to "puke".
Earlier this week, we reported how Lord Sugar stumped up an initial £5,000 to ban Piers from taking to twitter - as well as broadcasting or writing his views - for an entire day today.
Piers then challenged telly fans to pay £50,000 to see him don the team colours of the rival London side after an idea sparked by sports reporter Sean Fletcher.
Piers, 51, gloated there was "not a cat in hells chance" of them succeeding - but Lord Alan made sure it was a certainty by pledging just short of £25,000 to top up the £19,930 in online pledges and £7,000 in offline funds raised.
On today's show entertainment reporter Richard Arnold revealed a snap Piers sent to Lord Alan to prove he had kept his side of the bargain and a celebratory message from the business guru.
In the video clip, he said: "It's just short of few quid so I'm going to top it up to make sure the £50,000 is there.
"So not only is Piers gagged he also has to wear Tottenham shirt.
"What a wonderful birthday present for me, for him to completely go into silence mode."
As the snap was shown to the GMB presenters Kate Garraway quipped: "I was hoping he would wear shorts too!"
Meanwhile Ben Shephard was eager to see Piers' tum in a full length shot, joking the white shirts were very "figure hugging" and more fitted than other teams.
In his last Tweet before his sponsored silence, Piers wrote: "I'm now silenced on Twitter for the next 24hrs for relief. Try not to miss me too much."
Earlier this week as part of the fundraising challenge, This Morning host Holly Willoughby has put her hand deep into her pocket and donated £1,000 to Comic Relief in a bid to get lifelong Arsenal fan Piers Morgan to wear his club's rivals' shirt.
Piers revealed the generous contribution himself, after the official Good Morning Britain Twitter account tweeted the This Morning presenter asking if she'd like to contribute.
The outspoken journalist retweeted the post, adding: "She just did. £1k. And her husband is a bloody Gooner!"
