Sitting on the sofa next to Holly and her co-host Phillip Schofield, Tony explained how he’d administered CPRalongside Tobias Ellwood MP – on Keith to try and keep him alive.

As he spoke, Holly couldn’t stop her voice from breaking as she asked him how he’d been so brave.

Tony said: “Everything happened so quickly but my instinct was to go and give assistance. I know the basics.

“Initially when he fell to the ground I tried to put him the recovery position, he had a weak pulse. He was bleeding profusely.

“I tried to stem the blood but for that moment in time, about ninety seconds, a guy called Mike came and joined in. Then there were a lot of police around. Three minutes later Tobias came in.”

When they finished speaking, Holly said to him: “I’m going to shake your hand, you’ve been so brave.”

The special episode focused on the attack outside of the Houses of Parliament.

The maniac, who is known to police, mowed down pedestrians in London “at 70 mph” on Westminster Bridge before storming Parliament.

Phil and Holly also met a former colleague of Keith, Nina Whitehead, who revealed he'd saved her life.

Nina explained: “I was the passenger and he was one of the police officers who actually saved my life.

“I owe him everything. He was a wonderful dad, and wonderful husband to his wife and everything.”

At the beginning of the programme, Phil paid tribute to those who had lost their lives.

He said: “It was a scene of tragedy, but among the harrowing images are heroes.

“PC Keith Palmer, who lost his life while trying to protect our democracy. The doctors and nurses who ran towards the carnage to help.

“And the kindness of the passers by.

“They are the Britain we love, the country we know – the spirit that one man tried to destroy.”

Phil's words brought many viewers to tears - with hundreds going online to praise his words.
