Holly Willoughby splashes out £1,000 to see Arsenal fan Piers Morgan wear a Tottenham Hotspur shirt… as Gary Lineker pledges £2k if he wears it for the day

The donations come after Lord Sugar gave £5,000 to keep Piers off social media on Friday

HOLLY Willoughby has put her hand deep into her pocket and donated £1,000 to Comic Relief in a bid to get lifelong Arsenal fan Piers Morgan to wear his club's rivals' shirt.

Piers revealed the generous contribution himself, after the official Good Morning Britain Twitter account tweeted the This Morning presenter asking if she'd like to contribute.

The outspoken journalist retweeted the post, adding: "She just did. £1k. And her husband is a bloody Gooner!"

Earlier this morning Piers confirmed that if GMB viewers raised £50,000 for the charity, he would don a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

Retired footballer Gary Lineker regularly has banterous exchanges with Piers on social media and offered to pledge double Holly's donation if Piers kept the shirt on all day.

Reluctantly, Piers accepted the offer with the caveat he could remove it at 6pm.

Sports stars Robbie Fowler and Kevin Pietersen both pledged £1,000 each, leading a worried Piers to say: "My humiliation is looking far more real than I feared."

The new fundraiser, which will see Piers, 51, separated from his phone for 24 hours on Friday, would be “agonising” according to the hugely outspoken host.

He added: “It will be utter torture for me.”

And it will definitely happen now, after Lord Sugar made his promise in his video from his Florida home.

He told his followers: "Five grand to silence Piers Morgan for an entire day on Twitter?

"That's a bargain, the bargain of the century.

"Comic Relief send me the bill straight away, I will pay it immediately.

"It's going to be a wonderful day without that nutter clogging up the whole of Twitter with his nonsense for the whole day."
