Danny Miller reaches out to Emmerdale’s Robron fans to reassure them the couple will be OK
Fans of the popular couple had revolted over Robert's cheating forcing the actor to step in
EMMERDALE star Danny Miller has reached out to fans to comfort them as Robron face a shock split.
The actor - who plays Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap - has reached out to comfort fans who were left distraught when Robert Sugden cheated on his incarcerated husband with ex-girlfriend Rebecca White.
"I know it's not going the way you'd imagined," he wrote on Twitter to the fans of the couple.
"But it's a soap. There's loads of twists & turns. The abusive accounts/tweets helps nothing!
"Your passion & love for the characters & the show, makes us want to push you away & pull you back in. It's a journey. Plenty more to come."
Fans were outraged on Thursday night after Robert Sugden (played by Ryan Hawley) cheated on husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) with his ex, Rebecca White (Emily Head).
It led some viewers to tarnish the soap for ‘playing into the stereotype’ that bisexual people are unable to stay faithful to a partner.
Joe Parkinson, who is part of the writing team behind the soap, jumped to the defence of the twist and branded Aaron’s sexuality as ‘irrelevant’ in a series of tweets.
While a fourth wrote: “clearly wanna establish a bisexual character only to use them in a will they/won't they cheating storyline. lmao progressive”
However, others defended the actions, and reminded others that no matter what partner he’s been with, he has always been a cheat.
One Emmerdale fan site listed that he had cheated on EVERY previous partner in the show – making the plot less about his bisexuality, and more about him as a character.
Throughout his time on the show, he cheated on ex Elaine with Donna, cheated on Donna TWICE with Elaine and Katie, he cheated on Katie with Sadie, on Chrissie with Rebecca and Aaron, before he cheated on Aaron with Rebecca.
They then added: “Robert always was and always will be a cheater. Iain McLeod isn’t enforcing sterotypes about bisexuals, he’s staying true to Robert’s character.
- Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7pm
