Addressing his wife's struggle, John told magazine: “For me as a husband, it was my job to do the best I could to support her and understand what she was going through and do whatever I could do to help her. I feel like that’s the least I could do.

“[As a man] you don’t know internally what it feels like. You should read about it and understand what it is and really just be there to help.

"You need to be present and you need to be compassionate. And we’re all learning and trying to figure it out as we go. At least do that and try to figure it out together.”

In her emotional essay, Chrissy explained how she felt 'different' than she did before the birth while suffering with PND.

“Getting out of bed to get to set on time was painful,' said the Lip Sync Battle star. 'My lower back throbbed; my shoulders — even my wrists — hurt. I didn’t have an appetite, would go two days without a bite of food, and you know how big of a deal food is for me.

"One thing that really got me was just how short I was with people.

“I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy. I blamed it on being tired and possibly growing out of the role: ‘Maybe I’m just not a goofy person anymore. Maybe I’m just supposed to be a mom."

Her diagnosis came during a visit to the doctors in December, and John was there by her side.

She explained: “John sat next to me. I looked at my doctor, and my eyes welled up because I was so tired of being in pain."
