‘I woke up and he’d gone’ says Billy Ray Cyrus’ ex Firerose as she reveals they split hours before her cancer surgery
BILLY Ray Cyrus' ex-wife Firerose has accused him of "psychological abuse" and claimed he left her hours before she was due to have breast cancer surgery in a new interview.
The country music star, 63, and Australian singer, 34, were embroiled in a nasty court battle over their seven-month marriage.
Billy Ray filed for divorce in May citing "irreconcilable differences" and "inappropriate marital conduct".
Their break-up soon turned bitter, and both sides accused the other of verbal and emotional abuse.
They first became friends on the set of Hannah Montana over ten years ago when he was married to his wife Tish, with them reconnecting during the Covid pandemic.
"I couldn't have seen 10 years into the future.
"When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back," she told Stellar Magazine in a new interview.
She added: "He'd say bizarre things like, ''We're going to have this epic love story beyond anything you can imagine. We're going to have twins, and call them Melody and Harmony".
They got engaged two years ago and tied the knot in October last year in a private ceremony on their farm.
Firerose revealed that she became increasingly isolated from her family and friends during her relationship.
She initially thought he was being “protective” of her, but later realized she was becoming lonely and detached from her support network.
Opening up about the day that he left, she revealed: "We went to bed together, and when I woke up, he wasn't there.
"It wasn't abnormal for him to shut me out and give me the silent treatment, but it was very unusual for him to leave for a whole day. He didn't come home that night."
She says she was due to undergo breast surgery after discovering she has the BRCA1 gene mutation, which increases the likelihood that a person could develop cancer.
"I was alone on the farm by myself, with no security lights on. I was terrified and baffled, as he wasn't answering my calls or texts and he knew I had to be at the hospital the next day," she said.
The Australian singer recalled their wedding day and claimed she only had one friend in her bridal party who was also her hair stylist.
She continued: "All of a sudden, instead of being my normal lively, outgoing self, I became very introverted unless we were working or together in public, where I'd often try to be overly positive as I was scared to let anyone see how devastatingly withdrawn I'd become".
The Sun has contacted Billy Ray's rep for comment.
MONEY TALKS
The Australian singer will get $0 from her estranged husband in the divorce.
While Firerose did not get any money up front from her former husband, Billy Ray has agreed to hand over his claims to credits and royalties from any songs they wrote and published together.
According to TMZ, Firerose – born Johanna Rose Hodges – changed her name to Cyrus.
And Billy Ray reportedly believes she only married him for his last name.
"This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of. Let alone the fact I'm right in the center and basically the target of the scheme," the Achy Breaky Heart singer said in a statement via his attorneys to TMZ.
"It's unfortunate it played out this way. Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger, it was a matter of the heart. Love is blind, that's for sure."
