CHASING A DREAM?

Mark Labbett makes bid for The Chasers to host The Nightly Show ‘and make it more intelligent’

'The Beast' reckons that his highly intelligent co-stars could save the show from dwindling ratings

THE Chase star Mark Labbett believes he has an idea to save the failing Nightly Show – have the Chasers present it.

, known as ‘The Beast’ on the ITV game show, believes that given the opportunity, the team may hold the key to saving the divisive late night chat show.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Great idea, have a chaser host one night each of #thenightlyshow. Could be brilliant, could be car crash but at least we do it smart :)”

The four quiz whizzes – nicknamed The Beast, the Governess, The Dark Destoyer and the Vixen on the show – have become much loved household names thank to their no-holds-barred general knowledge abilities.

Last Saturday, they even showed off their softer sides after performing on Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief – and recreated the main characters in The Wizard of Oz in the name of charity.

Mark was joined by co-stars Anne Hegerty (The Governess), Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer) and Jenny Ryan (The Vixen) for the one-off skit – and left fans in stitches at home.

Jenny kicked off their performance channelling her inner Judy Garland as she sang a note perfect rendition of Somewhere
Over the Rainbow dressed as Dorothy Gale.

She was joined Anne who dressed as the Scarecrow, while Mark got wild to dress up as the cowardly lion, and Shaun provided some shiny excellence as the Tin Man.

Their performance was gatecrashed at the end by Leslie Joseph from Birds of a Feather who was cackled on stage as the Wicked Witch of the West before being scared away by The Governess.

However, Mark’s proposal may not come to be – as they are already on screen every day thanks to their Bradley Walsh fronted quiz.

The Nightly Show has been hit with terrible reviews since it first aired two weeks ago, with David Walliams and John Bishop failing to impress audiences.

Davina McCall has taken charge for week three, and has surprised audiences by warming them to the late night char show.

However, many fans are still not convinced the show will last – and Davina’s success story comes just days after Mel and

Sue backed out of presenting after getting “cold feet.”

An ITV source told The Sun: “It looked as though it was all but finalised, but they never quite signed on the dotted line.

“Unfortunately the talks collapsed when they decided they couldn’t possibly make their diaries fit with ITV and have had to turn down the offer.”

  • The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1.
