KATE Garraway wouldn’t have ‘swiped right’ for her husband Derek Draper if she had seen him on Tinder.

The Good Morning Britain star has been happily married for 11 years and the couple have two children.

But speaking to the , Kate admitted there was “no way” she would have gone for her spouse if she had used an app like Tinder, which requires a right swipe for yes and a left swipe for no.

She said: “And actually, he’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Kate, who reflected on her own dating history while writing her new book, The Joy of Big Knickers, encouraged middle-aged daters to approach a date with an “open mind”.

She said: “I spent a awful lot of my dating years going on dates as if they were a job interview, as if I had to show a whole list of qualifications, and if I didn’t get asked on a second date I had absolutely failed.

“Looking back it was kind of crazy ’cause dating should be about two people trying to find out and working out if they suit each other.”

The star – who recently revealed she had embarked on a two-week sex test with her bemused spouse – also advised her single peers to be confident at all times.

She said: “Always make sure that you have confidence in yourself.

“You have something to offer – and if they can’t see it, someone else will.”

A third and final piece of dating advice was to be safe, especially in the age of online dating.

She advised: “Never be pressurised into meeting someone you are chatting to online if you don’t want to. “Always tell someone you are going to meet someone.’
“If there is something that is a little bit odd or doesn’t feel right, listen to it.”
