Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan fears the half-sister she never met may have died at Irish Children’s Home where they found the bodies of 800 children

COLEEN Nolan has revealed she fears her long lost half-sister could be buried in an unmarked grave at an Irish children’s home where the bodies of 800 children were found.

A mass grave containing the bodies of the children – who were aged between 35 weeks to three years old – was found at Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway earlier in March.

The singer was in her twenties when she discovered her dad had fathered another child while he was still married to her mum

Speaking on Wednesday’s Loose Women, Coleen admitted she’s started to think her sister could have perished there.

She said: “I’ve talked about the half-sister I’ve never met. She was born in Ireland.

“I always wondered why she didn’t get in touch and I thought, she could have been one of those babies.

“It would have been around at that time as she was born in the mid-1950s. I was so shocked when I saw it.”

Coleen became visibly emotional as she continued to speak. She added: “All this time I wondered if she died, or maybe she didn’t know about us.

“Who knows what they’ve yet to find. I think please don’t let that of been there.”

Investigators at the home found an underground structure divided into 20 chambers containing “significant quantities of human remains”.

A probe was launched in 2014 after local historian Catherine Corless tracked down death certificates for nearly 800 children who had died as residents of the facility.

However she could find only one child’s burial record.

Corless said: “Everything pointed to this area being a mass grave.”

Katherine Zappone, the government’s commissioner for children, said the findings were “sad and disturbing.”

She added: “We will honour their memory and make sure that we take the right actions now to treat their remains appropriately.”
