MORE than three decades since he topped the charts with singalong classic The One And Only, Chesney Hawkes is aiming for another No1.
The British legend has co-written a track with top producer Jake Gosling – who has worked with Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and One Direction – and is gearing up to release it later this month.
The single, Get A Hold Of Yourself, will have its exclusive first play on Radio 2 on September 18 and is part of a huge new music project from Chesney which is expected next year.
He told me: “It’s really strange experiencing this all again – three decades later and with three decades worth of growing up.
“It’s taken a long time to feel confident enough to really throw myself back into a project but growing up and feeling much more comfortable and freer within myself has allowed that to happen.
“That’s what Get A Hold Of Yourself is about – getting hold of yourself and being free and not giving a f**k what people think.

“I think people are going to be surprised that this is a Chesney track.
“I can’t wait for people to hear it and think they will be surprised by the video for it!”
It’ll be good to have Chesney back.
He is The One And Only, after all.

Ill Chris a Souper star
BOWLING FOR SOUP frontman Jaret Reddick says the band’s poorly guitarist Chris Burney does appear on their contribution to new Disney punk-pop album A Whole New Sound, despite being in hospital.
He told me from his US home: “Chris wasn’t able to play on the track, Friend Like Me, but there is a part of the song which says, ‘You big nabob’, and that is Chris.
“That’s him from his hospital bed, into his phone, going, ‘You big nabob’.
“We had to include him in whatever way we could.”
A dance with chaos
ST VINCENT has opened up about her album All Born Screaming.
She told Wallpaper magazine: “Between the subject matter in the album, which is black, white and all the colours of the fire, you’re alive and then you’re really f***ing dead.
“The rest is a dance with chaos.”
Sounds like working on this column.
Back in action
ROCKERS LINKIN PARK have announced a comeback - seven years after the suicide of their frontman Chester Bennington.
They will release album From Zero on November 15, and will play London’s O2 Arena on September 24 as part of a tour.
New song The Emptiness Machine is out now.
Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara has joined the band as a co-vocalist, with Colin Brittain on drums.
They join Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn.
Mike said: “Our first band name was Xero.
“This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking.”
Vern so cheesed off at DJ
PRESTON in Lancashire is party central this weekend as Radio 2’s Pop In The Park comes to town.
And Vernon Kay, who is helping host the three-day bash, chose a simple wishlist for backstage – despite other DJs previously taking the mick.
Vern said: “My rider is four lagers, four waters and a black towel.
“What more do you need?
“When I was DJing with a former Radio 1 DJ in Greece they ordered an international cheese platter.
“I was like, ‘Who the jeff has ordered (that) in the middle of a Greek island?’ ”
Stars playing including Sting, Manic Street Preachers, Pet Shop Boys and Craig David.
Vernon will also play DJ sets, adding: “I like a balance between the dance tunes you knew when clubbing and the tunes you know if you watched Top Of The Pops.”
Camila's pop at Sabrina
CAMILA Cabello appears to have hit back at Sabrina Carpenter on an expanded version of her fourth album C,XOXO.
Sabrina’s chart-topping album Short N Sweet, out last month, seemed to reference a love triangle between herself, Camila and Camila’s on/off boyfriend Shawn Mendes.
In new song Can Friends Kiss? Camila sings: “I don’t like your new girl, she don’t move me.”
Referencing her split from Shawn in late 2021 on track Godspeed, Camila appears to take a swipe back at Sabrina’s claim she taught Shawn how to be funny.
Camila sings: “I don’t think your jokes sound funny anymore.”
She adds: “And I hope you find some peace. Godspeed.”
Awkward.
Gladiator Megan is fighting fit
THEY say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – so I expect Beyonce, Pink and Britney Spears will be thrilled to see Megan Thee Stallion recreating their Pepsi commercial 20 years on.
The Savage singer plays a sexy gladiator in the ad, which dropped yesterday.
