Emotional Call the Midwife viewers left ‘broken’ as Nurse Crane weeps after she accidentally hits a child with her car

CALL The Midwife fans confessed they were stunned and "broken" at Nurse Crane's emotional turmoil after she crashed her car into a little boy leaving him fighting for his life.
Popular character Phyllis had been giving lessons to Sister Winifred, but had switched back to the drivers' seat after they had not gone to plan.
Yet shortly after doing so she hit Lenny Antoine head-on, leaving him with concussion and a fractured femur.
She was struck with terror as she was told Magistrates would be investigating.
After her car was impounded and she was forced to temporarily stand down fans flocked to Twitter to sympathise with her horrible situation, with one posting: "OMG WHAT JUST HAPPENED, POOR PHYLLIS."
Another continued the Caps Lock theme and added: "OH MY JESUS. NURSE CRANE NO OMG," while a third put: "Nurse Crane what have you done."
A worried fan put: "Oh no, Nurse Crane looks so shocked and scared, I have never seen her like that."
Another show fan confessed: "Oh Phyllis my heart is breaking ."
One telly addict pleaded: "Aw Phyllis ," while one squealed: "Don't do this to our Phyllis !!"
The next put: "Nurse Crane it was an accident," while one simply confessed: "Phyllis crane crying has me broken."

Later in the show, Phyllis admitted to police she had been self taught as a driver because "it was the way things were done."
Meanwhile Sister Winifred said she would testify that little Lenny actually ran across the road and caused the incident - rather than the nurse actually hitting him.
A test showed Nurse Crane had no trace of alcohol in her blood and after the Sister's confession, she was cleared.
After being told the truth about the situation Lenny's dad said: "She's a good woman."
Meanwhile Nurse Crane was plagued with guilt.
She revealed: "My lapse could have cost him his life.
"I have noone to question but myself."
