"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend," Mariah, 55, said in a statement to .

"Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.

"I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."

A cause of death for Mariah's 87-year-old mom Patricia, and 63-year-old sister, Alison, is yet to be released.

Alison's close friend and carer, however, has said she struggled with her health in recent weeks.

"Alison was on home hospice care for the last three weeks of her life," pal Dave Baker told The U.S. Sun.

He went on to add that the superstar's sister "had a problem with internal organs."

"Beneath a tough exterior Alison was a highly intelligent, warm, and sensitive person," Dave continued.

"I have known her for nine years and as her friend and in recent months her carer I will miss her greatly.

"Farewell Alison. May you now find peace, your tortured soul forever free from earthly pain."

Mariah had a complicated relationship with her mom Patricia, who also had a son, Morgan.

Patricia was an opera singer trained at Juilliard in New York City.

She also worked as a vocal coach and was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey who died in 2002.

The two got divorced when Mariah was only 3 years old.

MARIAH AND PATRICIA'S RELATIONSHIP

The pop music sensation opened up about the complicated relationship between her and her mom in her 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

Mariah Carey fans suspect the singer is 'teasing' a new era of music after spotting clues on Instagram

She wrote, "Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities.

"It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions."

"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment," she shared.

"A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's."

Mariah Carey's heartbreaking statement

On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mom Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.

"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend," she started.

"Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed."

"I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," she concluded.

Mariah discussed that she almost drowned while at the beach when she was seven years old and how her mom didn't pay attention despite Mariah's "hysterical crying."

Patricia also went through some family trauma as she was disowned by her mom for marrying a Black man.

"That was an abomination. It was the ultimate humiliation. My mother's marriage to my father was beyond betrayal to her mother; it was a high crime against her white heritage, punishable by ex-communication," Mariah .

"Needless to say, my grandmother completely disowned her daughter."

The star dedicated part of her memoir to her mom, writing, "And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could.

"I will love you the best I can, always."

TOUGH LOVE

Regardless of their troubles, Mariah continued to work through her and Patricia's issues.

During Mariah's ABC special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To You, she and her mom sang O Come All Ye Faithful together in an emotional duet.

Just like Patricia, Mariah revealed in her memoir that it was tough to have a relationship with Alison and Morgan.

The Obsessed singer claimed that it was "emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact" with her brother and sister.

'ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BACK'

Once her statement was out, fans flocked to social media to share their condolences to Mariah and her loved ones.

"We are sorry for your loss and wishing you all the healing energy possible," one wrote.

"Sending all the love in the world for you and your family," another shared.
