Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter reveals she hid her first IVF attempt from ITV bosses because she was worried how it would affect her job
The soap star is now pregnant with twins and is on a mission to help other women with fertility problems
LUCY Pargeter has admitted she hid her first round of IVF from Emmerdale bosses because she was worried about how it would affect her job.
When she found out she was pregnant after the second cycle, the 39-year-old opened up to producers and is now starting her maternity leave.
Lucy, who has an 11-year -old daughter Lola with her fiancé Rudi Coleano, opened up about her experiences on Thursday’s This Morning.
She explained: “I was keeping it a secret from work the first time around.
“You don’t want to give them the indication you could be off in nine months so you can to be careful.
“So I’d be doing the injections at lunchtime or after work…”
Lucy went through two cycles of IVF before she found out she was expecting twin girls.
“We got 19 eggs fertilised but some died and some crumbled but we had five that got to the optimum point.
“We’re having two girls, Rudi is totally outnumbered!”
Her journey to getting pregnant wasn’t easy however, with Lucy explaining that doctors couldn’t work out why the couple couldn’t conceive.
Lucy said: “He was firing on all cylinders – they checked his sperm and my egg reserves and it was fine.
“I had a tiny bit of endometriosis but they cut it away. There was no reason.
“We left it completely up to nature but then it didn’t take its course and it didn’t happen.”
Now Lucy would like to help educate other women about the difficulties of having children at a later age.
She continued: “Women aren’t aware how their eggs deteriorate and how their egg reserves deteriorate.
