Gavin Rossdale admits he ‘never thought he would get divorced’ after suffering ‘a lot of pain and sadness’ following split from Gwen Stefani

Gavin Rossdale has opened up about his split from Gwen Stefani – and admits he never thought he would get divorced from her.

The 51-year-old, who is currently making his debut as a judge and mentor on The Voice UK, admitted that the split caused him “a lot of pain and sadness” as he came to terms with his marriage ending.

He revealed to magazine:  “We’re all products of nuclear families. My parents have been married three times each. I’m just a junior. I never thought I would get divorced. But it just happens.”

Gavin and Gwen were together for nineteen years after meeting while their bands No Doubt and Bush were on tour together.

However, after getting married in 2002, fans were shocked when they revealed they’d gone their separate ways in 2016.

However, Gavin has revealed that he is trying to focus on the positive on the marriage breakdown – and said he feels it has given his life a new perspective in the aftermath.

The Bush frontman added: “It really teaches you perspective on life. It’s really health, happiness and safety. After that, I don’t know what there is other than that.”

Despite their break-up, the pair remain amicable as they raise their three sons – 10-year-old Kingston, eight-year-old Zuma and Apollo, 3.

Gavin also admitted: “I’m not sure I’ll ever go at it [marriage] again. I’m trying to be a really good dad and make good records and shoot good TV shows.”

In the meantime, Gavin says his new album Black and White Rainbows is a signal of the “rebirth, relaunch and restart” following his divorce.

“I really believe that there is sort of an energy that makes things collide and work together or not work together. It’s nothing more than an energy and synchronicity. It’s a really great time for me and my boys.”

Gwen and Gavin are said to have split over allegations of cheating on his part with the Australian nanny Mindy Mann.

claimed that Gavin and Mindy had a three year long affair which was uncovered after another of the couples’ nannies discovered nude photos of Mindy and sexual texts and brought them to Gwen’s attention.

While Gavin at first dismissed their texts as “flirtation”, he allegedly eventually confessed to adultery months later, a development that is said to have left Gwen “mortified, livid, and embarrassed”.
