Broadchurch reveals chilling trailer with Hardy and Ellie questioning potential suspects over the brutal rape of Trish as her ex-husband reveals she spent time with ‘a lot of strange men’

The latest trailer is adding to the mystery

BROADCHURCH made a triumphant return this week with a chilling new crime leaving viewers hooked from the first episode.

Former Corrie star Julie Hesmondhalgh is at the centre of the drama in the third series as her character, Trish Winterman, endures a horrifying rape following a birthday party in the first episode.

And a trailer for the second episode shows Detective Inspector Alex Hardy (played by David Tennant) and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (played by Olivia Colman) working on the case.

DI Hardy can be seen addressing a room full of police officers providing details of Trish’s brutal assault.

“There was a serious attack at the party on Saturday. It was a deliberate and brutal attack,” the police chief explains.

He adds: “We can’t keep this from the public for long,” suggesting the cops will be in a race against time to draft up their suspects.

DS Miller suggests their list is nearing completion when she notes: “We know how many potential suspects we’ve got.”

Trish friend Jim Atwood (played by Mark Bazeley), while seemingly talking to DS Miller, notes: “People are already talking,” with Miller warning: “Make sure you’re not one of them.”

Meanwhile it is suggested Trish might not have been faithful to her husband, Ian Winterman (played by The Fast Show’s Charlie Higson) says: “It’s not nice seeing the woman you married to with a lot of strange men.”

Newcomer Chris Mason’s Leo Humphries could be a suspect

Later the police are seen talking to Chris Mason’s Leo Humphries with Hardy asking him how old he is.

The youth replies: “I’ve totally got authority to take decisions,” prompting Hardy to sassily respond with: “Cooperate with our requests or we’ll totally come back with a warrant.”

Broadchurch will be back on ITV on Monday at 9pm.
