RUFUS Hound has revealed that he was once mistaken for Eddie Izzard by a comedy idol of his.
The comedian was a guest on today’s episode of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch when the conversation turned to lookalikes.
Hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer asked him if he’d ever been mistaken for anyone else.
Rufus said: “I did running up and down the Embankment for Sport Relief once and the bloke that played Denzil in Only Fools and Horses? His daughter ran over and went, ‘my dad is a huge fan of yours!’
“And I was like, ‘oh great!’ So I walked over and he’s like, ‘I just got to say everything you’ve been doing this year for Sport Relief’s been absolutely amazing, a real massive effort’.
“One of the legends of sitcom knows me, this is really great! Then he went, ‘Well, Mr Izzard, it was a pleasure to meet you’.”
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Rufus quit being a guest on Celebrity Juice because of Kim Woodburn
The actor, 37, was a regular panellist on Keith Lemon’s TV panel game show, but was forced to leave after an explosive row with the controversial Celebrity Big Brother star.
Speaking to stand-up comedian Richard Herring on his podcast, which was broadcast in 2013, Hound said he had no choice but to leave after a ‘personal’ row spiralled out of control.
He said Kim was chatting to host Lemon who asked her if she had much work coming up. When she replied that she didn’t think she was wanted on the TV any more, Hound said to her: “Don’t put yourself down. People will always need a cleaner.”
But Kim didn’t see the funny side and retorted: “When I want an opinion of a fat man, I’ll stand outside Gregg’s.”
Adding that it then “spiralled out of control”, he said: “It ended up really horrible. She was trying to be deliberately personal, and by the point it got to that place, I was like, ‘OK, because I’m a stand-up comedian and if you want to start heckling, I’m good at this’.
“And so I was personal back. She basically kept saying I was fat. But I did end up saying, ‘that’s a bit rich coming from a woman who looks like a face drawn on a deflating party balloon’.”
