Kate Garraway narrowly avoids injury when her taxi is hit by a falling tree branch as Storm Doris causes chaos across the country
KATE Garraway felt the full force of Storm Doris today when a flying tree branch crashed into the car she was travelling in.
The Good Morning Britain presenter was seen battling against Doris’s fierce winds as she got into her awaiting taxi following her morning telly stint, however it was nearly the case of being safer OUTSIDE the car.
The 49-year-old tweeted: “Woah – the taxi am in has just been hit by a flying tree branch – thankfully just a small one . Heck of a thump though – scarey #stormdoris [sic]”
She then replied to a fan who had had a tress fall in front of them, and warned her 225,000 followers: “Be careful out there.”
Kate wasn’t the only celeb effected today, Coronation Street was plunged into crisis earlier today by Storm Doris.
Belying her gentle name, Doris has torn through the UK and caused chaos for Corrie’s crew and cast as her wind and rain stopped them from filming a major storyline with Rosie and Sophie Webster.
Actresses Helen Flanagan and Brooke Vincent were pictured wrapping up from the severe storm as the wind caused the crew to have to run around to hold props down.
Umbrellas, pallets and mattresses flew around the set preventing the Corrie lot from filming despite doing their best.
It comes after the soap confirmed Helen would be sticking around – presuming Doris doesn’t blow her away – on the cobbles for a long time yet.
The actress, who plays Rosie Webster in the ITV soap, initially rejoined the show after five years away on a three-month contract but soap bosses have extended her stint until at least December.
Show boss Kate Oates said: “We are thrilled to have Helen back and delighted that she is now going to become a more permanent fixture in Weatherfield.
“Rosie is a classic Coronation Street comedy character and we are looking forward to seeing more of her antics in the future.”
Helen added: “I am having so much fun being back here playing Rosie again. The writing is hilarious and I am delighted to be staying around.
“I can’t wait to see what Rosie is going to get up to.”
