EastEnders’ Ben Hardy will lead BBC One’s new psychological drama The Woman in White
The former soap hunk is back from Hollywood to take on the classic thriller
HE left EastEnders to take on Hollywood and do battle with his fellow X-Men.
But Ben Hardy has returned to the BBC after landing the lead role in the channel’s adaption of a classic thriller The Woman in White.
Ben, 26, will star as school teacher Walter Hartright who encounters what appears to be a mysterious female spirit dressed in white.
And his obsession with finding out who this spirit is leads him into a world of forbidden romance and insanity.
In a statement , Ben said: “I have always admired and been a fan of the BBC’s period dramas.
“I’m so thrilled to be playing the leading role of Walter in this classic story.”
Ben played Ian Beale’s son Peter from 2013 to 2015, making him the sixth person to play the role.
He then made his film debut in X Men: Apocalypse as the winged mutant Archangel.
Ben is joined in The Woman in White by rather an impressive supporting cast who have already started filming the five hour-long episodes in Belfast.
Taboo star Jessica Buckley will play Marian Halcombe, and Charles Dance, Dougray Scott and Art Malik will also star.
Showrunner Fiona Seres said: "[This] is a powerful, poignant story and I have absolutely loved adapting this epic for the screen.
"I'm thrilled it's attracted such an exciting, high-calibre cast who I know will bring it to life in a unique and intimate way."
