This Morning viewers swoon over ex Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle but question his bizarre new accent
Ricky has landed a lead role in new Amazon Prime show American Gods opposite Ian McShane
RICKY Whittle had This Morning viewers in a tizzy today as they swooned over the former Hollyoaks but were a bit confused about his new American accent.
He was on the ITV show with co-star Ian McShane to promote their new Amazon Prime TV show American Gods and fans were loving seeing him back on home soil.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Ricky revealed he had to beef up for his latest TV role.
He said: "I started off at 175 pounds and I topped out at 210 pounds.
"Our producers threw me into Unbreakable Gym with these 300 pound beasts who are NFL players and the like and said, 'Go work out with them'.
"So I was in there for four hours a day and I had to eat 4,000 calories a day.
"The first week was great, I was eating all the pizzas, burgers but then once you get the weight up that's when you cut out the sauces and the sugar and have to start eating the right things. "
His fans at home were clearly loving his buffed look with many rushing to Twitter to shared their admiration for the star.
One wrote: "#thismorning Ricky Whittle what a beautiful looking man..💕."
Another added: "Nice to see @MrRickyWhittle back on our screens #ThisMorning."
However, many were confused about the Manchester born star's new accent.
The 35-year-old has lived in LA for five years.
One wrote on Twitter: "How long has ricky whittle been in America? Very dodgy accent going on."
Another added: "But I thought Ricky Whittle was from Oldham? Or is he American now?”
The former soap star also opened up about his 'diva demands' on set of his new TV show.
He laughed when Holly brought up that he demanded "cold coins" for a trick he had to do.
Ricky explained: "It sounds harsh but it's true. When my character is in prison he runs a coin across his knuckles, it's an escape, it calms him down.
"But you can't do it if it's too warm so I had to ask for cold coins."
Earlier on today's show, Holly made a sly dig at the BBC during a caravan skit with Phillip.
