SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE!

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid warns irate Piers Morgan to ‘turn the volume down’ after feisty rant about Sutton United pie-eating goalie Wayne Shaw’s resignation

The outspoken presenter continuously stuck up for Wayne's antics during today's breakfast show and GMB viewers

FURIOUS Susanna Reid instructed Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan to "turn the volume down" after he launched into a huge rant to defend Sutton United's pie-loving goalie Wayne Shaw.

The chunky sportsman was prompted to resign after he was spotted tucking into the pastry treat in the team's dug-out during their FA Cup clash with Arsenal.

Yet fans of the ITV show were quick to give ex newspaper man Piers the thumbs-up for his no-frills views and staunch defence of the non-league, treat-loving sportsman.

Wayne, 46, known as the “roly-poly goalie”, admitted after the game he knew Sun Bets was offering odds on him being seen eating during the televised fifth-round meeting with the Gunners at Gander Green Lane.

On today's GMB Piers couldn't shake the story from his mind, interrupting both Susanna and Charlotte Hawkins.

He raged: "All the fun has to go from life because a bloke ate a pie, is that it?"

As football agent Sky Andrews tried to defend an FA investigation into Wayne's actions, Piers replied: "It's all ridiculous - the bloke ate a pie!

"I cannot believe we are debating this. Am I wrong?"

He wouldn't let the issue lie and quizzed every guest about their views on the issue.

During a chat with his celeb mate Vinnie Jones he again raged: "It's so pathetic.

"In this PC crazed world where noone can have a laugh."

Vinnie agreed and even said Wayne should be signed up for a team in LA - before adding: "If he (Wayne) didn't get a pay out, I will pay him."

Fans were quick to take to Twitter to agree with Piers.

One wrote: Im totally with concerning HE ATE A PIE

I agree with you everything your saying. Its a pie

otally agree with you on Pie gate; others are allowed to do the most appalling acts on the pitch whilst being paid millions.

im so proud of piers for standing up to the atrocious way they are treating . I luv the passion in his voice

Another added: "Fantastic defence of Wayne Shaw! Us pie eaters need a leader to protect our employee rights!"

One quipped: "Someone get a pie, while another added: "You go Piers!! Hats off to you supporting Wayne Shaw lets get Britain behind your campaign!!"

On Monday Shaw was shown on television tucking into the snack towards the end of the 2-0 loss to Arsenal before admitting after the game he was aware that a bookmaker was offering odds on him to do so.

“Wayne has offered his resignation to the chairman this afternoon and that has been accepted. It’s a very sad end to what was a very good story,” Doswell told Sky News.

Both the Football Association and the Gambling Commission announced on Tuesday that they would carry out independent investigations into the publicity stunt.

Sun Bets tweeted after the game that they had paid out a “five-figure sum” on a bet that 46-year-old Shaw would be shown eating a pie.

An FA spokesperson said: “We are investigating to establish whether there has been any breach of The FA rules relating to betting.

The breakfast show was full of pie banter during Wednesday's show as entertainment reporter Ross King was covered in custard pie.

The Scot was forced to dash off-camera following the hilarious yet VERY messy incident live on today’s ITV show, filmed in the programme’s LA studio.

Hardman Vinnie could be seen creeping up behind Ross and wrapping his right arm around his shoulder before smearing the sweet treat right on his visage.

Ross tried in vain to grab Vinnie’s left hand and stop the incident but was instead left flailing around in shock.

Back in the London studio, presenter Susanna Reid could be seen with her mouth wide open in surprise as Piers Morgan giggled about the very messy present.
