Ex-EastEnders star Samantha Womack keen to take to dance floor as first celeb rumoured to take part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing

It's too early to sign contracts but both Samantha, whose character Ronnie Mitchell was killed off on New Year's Day, and BBC bosses are said to be keen

EASTENDERS’ Samantha Womack wants to star in Strictly’s next series.

The actress, 44, left, is keen after quitting as the soap’s Ronnie Mitchell.

Her character drowned in a New Year’s Day storyline and a source said: “Sam didn’t want to do Strictly while  on EastEnders but now  she has  more time on her hands it was a very appealing offer.

"It’s  too early for contracts but she’s keen and the show are keen so it’s pretty much a done deal.”

 Although its too soon for signing contracts, it's likely Samantha will follow in Ed Balls' footsteps, as she is reportedly keen to do the dance competition

Sports presenter Ore Oduba, 31, won the 2016 series, which also featured Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac, 28, singer Louise Redknapp, 42, and politician Ed Balls, 49.

Screen sister Rita Simons, 39, won’t be joining her when the BBC1 show returns in September.

She said: “I’m sticking my heels in and saying I want to be a gritty Brit actor.

“I’m not knocking reality shows but it’s time out of auditions and making films.”
