CORONATION Street viewers will watch Michelle Conner and Steve McDonald go through the emotional task of scattering the ashes of their stillborn son on Monday's episode.
The characters - played by Kym Marsh and Simon Gregson - have left fans heartbroken due to their tragic stillborn storyline which saw Michelle give birth to Ruari at 23 weeks.
And Friday night's episode revealed just how hard it is for her to continue to come to terms with the lose as she was given the ashes of her son.
In the heartbreaking scenes, Michelle can't help but burst into tears as she says :"It's good to have him home... it's so tiny."
Steve does his best to comfort her as he promises to be with her throughout the ups and downs to come as he states: "Over time there will be more ups than downs."
Steve had begun to blame himself for the loss, insisting to mum Liz that his cheating with Leanne Battersby was somehow to blame.
In emotionally powerful scenes, Michelle and husband Steve McDonald were told their baby wouldn’t survive and Michelle was left to give birth to her son surrounded by the sound of crying babies.
Given the chance to hold her son, Michelle sobbed over him as Steve tried to comfort her.
She said: "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I don't want to give him back. I don't want to leave him. He looks so perfect, I keep thinking he's going to wake up."
She added: "My heart feels like it's breaking, actually breaking."
Kym, 40, lost baby Archie seconds after he was born prematurely at just 21 weeks in 2009.
She said: “I thought long and hard before agreeing to take on the challenge of this storyline. It is a cause very close to my heart having lost my beautiful Archie."
Bosses worked closely with stillbirth charity Sands on the episode. Viewers will see Michelle and husband Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson, 42, struggle with their loss.
Kym was with her ex-husband, Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, when she lost Archie. They later had daughter Polly, five, together. She is also mum to David, 21, and Emily, 19.
She added: “I felt it was an important story to tell to raise awareness of something which affects thousands of women every year. I am very proud.”
Her co-star Simon revealed that he and wife Emma had sufferred 11 miscarriages.
