Glastonbury headliner reveals they had to wash clothes in a stream before superstardom

SHE will play to huge crowds on Sunday afternoon when she takes the coveted Legends slot.

But Shania Twain hasn’t forgotten her roots and, ahead of her show, opened up about the hardships she faced as a young woman when she had to give up music to go back home to Canada to raise her siblings after her ­parents died in a car crash.

Shania said: “It was a very touch and go period in my life.

“I had frostbite many times just by not having the right clothes.

“I’d have to go down to the river and bring back coolers of water to drink and do the laundry down there by hand.

“I chopped my own wood, piled my own wood.

“It was a lot of pressure.

“I barely slept.”

Shania is now the best-selling female artist of all time in country music and has sold 100million records worldwide.

She said of making her riches: “I went from sleeping in cars to travelling first class.
